GPS accuracy and limitations
Accuracy depends on your phone, surroundings, and GPS signal. TrackMyDistance filters weak readings, stationary drift, and unrealistic jumps before adding movement to your distance.
Browser tracking may pause if you lock your phone, close the page, or switch to another app. Keep the tracker visible for the most reliable result.
Privacy and location data
Location access begins only after you press Start and allow your browser to use GPS. Saved routes are available through your guest or registered account.
Live sharing is off by default. If you enable it, anyone with the private share link can follow that activity while the tracker remains open. You can stop sharing at any time.
TrackMyDistance collects anonymous product events such as whether tracking was started, completed, or failed and the selected activity type. These events do not include GPS coordinates, routes, email addresses, activity IDs, or live-share tokens.
Frequently asked questions
How can I track my walking distance?
Choose Walk, press Start tracking, allow location access, and keep the page open while you move. Finish the activity to save and review the result.
Do I need to install an app?
No. TrackMyDistance works in a supported phone browser. You can optionally add it to your home screen for quicker access.
Does it count steps?
It estimates walking steps from your accepted GPS distance using an average stride length. It is an estimate rather than a physical step-counter reading.
How accurate is GPS walking distance?
Accuracy varies with your device, satellite signal, buildings, trees, and weather. The tracker rejects weak readings and unrealistic movement, but no phone GPS measurement is exact.
Can it continue tracking in the background?
Background tracking is not guaranteed in a browser. Your phone or browser may pause GPS when the screen locks, the page closes, or another app becomes active.
